Please give us a summary of your Career.

I started my career as a private nurse soon after completing my GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery) course. For 4 years, I went to different places and remote areas to provide my service. While working as a private nurse, I got a job in NTPC Limited for their hospital named Jeevan Jyoti. There I joined as a staff nurse in 1995. I got promotions in my career and after completing my MBA degree, I was appointed as Nursing Administrative Officer. Now I am serving as a Nursing Administrative officer. Meanwhile, in my career, I have been associated with BMS as their leader at the state level.

Please describe your current Job Responsibilities.

My daily responsibilities revolve around the patient’s well being. Along with this, I am responsible for the administrative works of the hospital also (for the nursing department) like to divide the duty of the nurses, to appoint nurses for the patient, and so on. I look after the salary process to ensure each of the employees under me gets their salary on time. I keep recording updates for the attendance of the nurses. Also, I look after the cleanliness and hospitality of the wards. I keep motivating people working in my team to give their best for their assigned job.

You must always be ready to serve the patient irrespective of your personal problem when you are on duty. This career may ask you to work in a shift, so you should be flexible in adjusting yourself according to your work call. You must be very calm and relaxed during your working hours. You should be practical and positive because you might have to deal with some sensitive cases in the hospital. Always be ready to learn new things about life, this enhances your personality which reflects everywhere in your life.

What are some of the positives, which would encourage someone to join the Nursing Profession?

From the initial stages, your income will be good. Health sector provides you with a good amount of salary. If you want to do something for society then according to me nursing is one of the best careers to put your efforts in social service where you have to put your efforts in making the lives of other people better. When people say thank you and goodbye with a smile after getting discharged, that moment will be the most satisfying moment in your life. You will be recognized by the people for your good work and you will always be the part of their memories.

What are some of the negatives that you would want someone to be aware of when considering a career in the Nursing Profession?

If you are living in remote areas then you might have to face some difficulties like criticism for your work, and also you might not be supported by your relatives. Initially, there is no social recognition, no pride for your work but this will change over time. You will have to be very flexible because in this profession, working in a shift is very normal. You will have to keep yourself positive and mentally strong always at your workplace, you cannot afford to lose your focus at work.

The main issue with starting a business is about funding, because without funding neither you can start your own nursing school nor a training center.

How easy is it to move to a different country in this profession?
Very Easy
Now you have several years of work experience and you have seen professions of others. If you are taken back to 10th/12th class and allowed to pick a profession, then which profession will you pick and why?

I will choose the teaching profession. It was my dream to become a professor and I would have loved delivering lectures and making someone understand different concepts.
