Please give us a summary of your Career.
I started in the music industry as a singer because I wanted to be a playback singer. In 1999, I passed B grade audition in AIR and till 2004, I have won many music competitions around the country. Later, In 2005, I participated in the TV show, Saregamapa (till the semi-finals). In 2007, I participated in another TV reality show, Voice of India. I kick-started my career in radio because for a musician, it is parallel to that so I joined as a sound engineer. In 2007, the same year joined a community radio Popcorn where I worked for two and a half years. Later in 2011, I joined government community radio Vanya which worked for tribals. Next year, I joined Big FM in Bareilly then switch place to Agra in the same company. In 2016, I worked in Fever FM Lucknow only for three months. In October, I joined my current company Radio City in Kanpur.
Please describe your current Job Responsibilities as Sound Engineer.
My current responsibilities as a sound engineer are traffic scheduling. In broadcasting, traffic is the scheduling of program material, and in particular the advertisements, for the broadcast day. In a commercial radio, there is a vital link between sales (of the advertisement or commercial space) and traffic in keeping the information about commercial time availability. I produce shows, radio jingles, voiceovers, bumpers, advt commercials, and radio spots. Mixing and post-production are also part of my job because, during mixing, sound engineering technicians combine multiple tracks, with each track consisting of a recording of different instruments or vocals to create the final product. Sound mixers and re-recording mixers are specialists in this stage of the sound engineering process.

Sometimes, there are many productions to cover, so a person who is short tempered cannot be helpful here. They should have a wise sense of music and sound. If they can sing, it is a plus point.
What are some of the positives, which would encourage someone to join your Profession?
The work culture is relaxed and calm. If a person is creative and able to use it to write and sing to expand their horizons with an understanding of music and sound plus technical knowledge, this is the career for them. You can create your own productions in your free time. For example, any music composition, any jingle or sound effects (sfx) that can help you in your work or even if it is for any personal use. Your love for perfect sound quality is what makes you fit to work as a sound engineer.
What are some of the negatives that you would want someone to be aware of when considering a career in Sound Engineering?
There is no traveling in this job. So if a person is willing to work outside, it is not really possible in this profession. There are no other negatives other than travel. As a sound engineer, you cannot use your creativity at many times because you are supposed to work according to your clients. If you really have flair for sound and technical then only choose to be a sound engineer. You work long hours with an erratic schedule, everything has to be perfect or else, you might end up losing your clients that you are recording with or producing commercials. You are sitting in a studio for hours on end because sometimes the productions are rejected.
