Please give us a summary of your Career.
I have set up my own business for lending fancy costumes and accessories business. We have 4-5 branches in Bangalore. They have been running for more than 20 years, which was, at first, started by my father. The main branch is in Malleshwaram, few other branches are in Kathriguppe, Yelahanka, Magadi road, and BTM layout. We get orders from schools and colleges during their fests and annual days. We rent costumes for such programs. Also, we have walk-in costumers too. We have costumes like Bharatanatyam, Yakshagana, Kathak, Mohini-Atam and professional costumes like doctor, police etc.
Please describe your current Job Responsibilities as an Owner of a Costume Lending Store.
As mentioned earlier, we have walk-in costumers. We also get orders from schools and colleges during fests and annual days. We rent costumes for such programs. Normally, we get orders from schools and colleges during the months of August (for independence day), October, November, December, and January. We have our own tailors to stitch the costumes. We have branches in Kathriguppe, Yelahanka, BTM layout, and Magadi Road. And we rent our costumes for stage performances and also for movies. We will also do makeup according to the costumes.

What are some of the positives, which would encourage someone to join the Costume Lending Profession?
You get a high income in this job. As the job is my own business, there is nothing like a deadline. We take our own decisions about the business. There is life security in the job. We travel less as we have branches and the proper staff there to manage the business for us. The job atmosphere requires cooperation and compassion. As this job is skill-based, it requires newer experiences to create new things. It is a good work environment to work in. We also try to apply our past experiences to overcome problems.
What are some of the negatives that you would want someone to be aware of when considering a career in Costume Lending Profession?
We work overtime during the peak season that is in October, November, December, and January as we get orders in bulk. It is stressful during the season and requires more workers during the season. Cooperation is a must in such kind of workplace. There are profit & loss issues as it is a business. It is a tough job. It requires more experienced workers to be in this field. It’s really tough if there is no cooperation between the workers.
