Please give us a summary of your Career.

I was an Airman in the Accounts Branch of the Indian Air Force for 10 years. Also I held many responsibilities pay and allowances of combatant and non-combatant staff, civilians, recoveries on account of ration etc. I was then the Assistant Manager (F&A) at the Bharat Aluminium Corporation Limited. I handled the work relating to costing, budget, excise, purchase, sales, salaries and financial account & cost accounts and audit thereof. I was also the Director and Adviser (Cost) in the Ministry of Finance. And I handled the customs and central excise and GST, recoveries of central excise and service tax from the assessees. I am currently the Adviser (Cost) in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs.

Please describe your current Job Responsibilities.

As the Adviser in the  Ministry of Consumer Affairs, my current responsibilities include releasing food subsidies and central assistance to state governments on account of schemes launched by central govt for weaker sections of the society. Moreover, keeping vigil on the utilization of subsidies given to state governments. I check whether Minimum Support Price of food grains has been paid to farmers. Besides, I check whether subsidies given to states are being utilized judiciously or not. I also need to ask for the certificates from state authorities and the Food Corporation of India for the judicious utilization of subsidies.

What are some of the positives, which would encourage someone to join your Profession?

In the central government, all employees have responsibilities to cater services to the people of India. So all of them are dedicated to their work. One feels the pride to serve the people of our own country. Authorities and responsibilities are co-related in this field. Unless we have authorities, we can not shoulder our responsibilities. So one needs to join the elite group to serve the people. Besides all, one has the job security and can plan for the future. One gets respect also from the people whom one serves.

What are some of the negatives that you would want someone to be aware of when considering a career in your Profession?

It is very difficult to work in field formations as the staff is short. Officers have to strive for completion of targets. In government jobs, salary is less in comparison to that of private jobs. At times, traveling is also cumbersome. Sometimes we get irritated due to frequent traveling. Personal life is also affected due to all these problems. Sometimes, promotions are also delayed for no reasons of the employee concerned.
