And I have been in various positions, have seen the departments evolve, worked in various fields, and lived various types of responsibilities. I have also been Election officer during different times where I have had to do some work related to it. It was my first job since the time I started working and most probably will be my last job. I go to work around 11 and leave at 6.
Please describe your current Job Responsibilities.
My daily responsibilities in my department are huge. I am currently engaged as the Senior Officer in the Department of Sugar where I coordinate different matters related to the sale and storage of sugar. Besides this, I also have to keep track of the trading. As sugar is one of the daily needs of the common people, especially the people of West Bengal, I have to attend the grievances of the common people as well. I enjoy my work and my responsibility at my workplace. I am quite well known among my colleagues.

What are some of the positives, which would encourage someone to join your Profession?
It is a government job and definitely has its own perks. The job is highly secure and there are practically zero chances of getting out of the service during any recession period. The financial structure is quite good but not comparable to other jobs or even a business. One can devote a good amount of time to family as it has fixed duty hours and the stress level is quite low.
What are some of the negatives that you would want someone to be aware of when considering a career in your Profession?
Most important of all, the chances of promotion is very less. The pay scale, thus, increases only to a little extent even after 25-30 years of working in the department. One has to be calm and take decisions very patiently and keep a smiling face always even after listening to all the grievances of the people. Professional challenges are almost negligible which can make the work extremely monotonous.
