Under-Graduation – B.Arch., Erasmus University
Post-Graduation – Urban Management and Development, Erasmus University
Please give us a summary of your Career.
I completed my post graduation degree six years ago. Before that, I used to work as an intern at Paul Carpet Works. I used to submit floral designs that if approved would be the design for their products like wallpapers and carpets. I used to receive a stipend on the basis of every design that was selected. After my graduation, I got to work with Integral Designs which is a quite renowned firm in the state. The firm in collaboration with some civil construction companies designs the layout of the new societies and homes to be built.
Please describe your current Job Responsibilities.
Earlier when I joined Integral Designs, I was asked to submit sample designs for parking lots of malls, societies etc. Now as I gained work experience, I was set to work on real-life projects, I used to work with a team of 12 members each assigned to design a certain layout. I used to provide the layout for gardens of societies and parking lots too. Now that I have almost 6 years of experience, I was appointed as the Head of Designing for the Routh Court Apartments project. I supervise a team of 20 people. Everyone comes up with the design of each room. The design is sent for confirmation only after my verification. I also design the layout of master bedrooms and even bigger halls.

What are some of the positives, which would encourage someone to join your Profession?
First of all, the working hours as compared to any technical related job are quite less. You get to travel a lot to the site which gives you more and more experience with your work. Every project requires you to do a different task so there you usually do not get bored with your job. The better your work performance in the smaller projects is, the more are the chances for you to get a big project which corresponds to greater earning.
What are some of the negatives that you would want someone to be aware of when considering a career in your Profession?
Although the job requires you to put in less effort, the remuneration provided too is very low. The designs that we submit must be in accordance with the aspects and prospects of the building. Achieving this goal while designing is a difficult task and requires time. Moreover, you need to keep your calm and do the work else an irritated mind would not produce any good results and forfeit the deadline as well.
