Please give us a summary of your Career.

I started as an Assistant Professor in NIT, Hamirpur where I taught the basics of electronics to the First Year students and digital electronics to Second Year student. I worked here for almost 2 years and it was a great experience and after that, I move to work in another engineering college where I am currently working and it is a great experience working here. One of the best aspects of my job is that I have a great work-life balance and there is a mental satisfaction to see your students grow and eventually play a role in developing the country further.

Please describe your current Job Responsibilities as Asst. Professor.

Being a teacher, my primary job responsibilities include not only to teach theory to the students but also to shape perspectives and thought processes of the young minds. My responsibilities include lecturing, taking routine tests, exams and ensuring a holistic development of the students. The general background of children who come to study here is not very progressive. I constantly strive to shape their minds positively. I also help in implementing the updated policies and teaching methods that the government introduces for the students’ benefit. When necessary, I also enforce rules and disciplinary action against misconduct, if the need arises.

What are some of the positives, which would encourage someone to become an Asst. Professor?

I think the most obvious advantage is that you have the opportunity to really change a child’s life. There are many people who have come from difficult homes and they find the support and encouragement of a dedicated teacher the defining factor in their life. Being a teacher is, in my limited experience, incredibly rewarding when you see someone grow and change as a person. You have the opportunity to learn something from every person you encounter, and sometimes in their simplicity, children and young people have a unique kind of wisdom. There is also a large amount of paid holidays, though all your preparation is expected to be completed in these periods. Though, if you have children what this means is the opportunity to be with them when they’re off from school also. If you’re passionate about a particular subject you will probably find it exciting to share your knowledge with others and find it really rewarding if some of your students also take on the love you have for your subject.

What are some of the negatives that you would want someone to be aware of when considering a career as Asst. Professor?

Disadvantages may include having to deal with many trivial school work, but this really depends on which school you are working in. Some schools just do not leave teachers enough time to prepare lessons. This can be frustrating. Another thing may be you might have to deal with low-motivated students, who lack the motivation in class. It really takes a lot of patience and efforts if you want to make improvements in this aspect. However, I still enjoy teaching very much.
