Please give us a summary of your Career.
I was always a bright student starting from Class X. I knew I had the dedication and will to go for engineering. So, I chose the field. I was placed in Tech Mahindra from the college campus placements. I was given a yearly package of 4 lakhs. Initially, I thought that it was a good package but once I started working, I found that the amount that I received was quite less compared to the hours I was working. Since then I have switched three jobs and finally settled as a head of the department of a renowned engineering college.
Please describe your current Job Responsibilities as HOD.
My job responsibilities, being the HOD, force me to be better every day you know. Every day you have to handle a new situation with students. The more they want to know the more I should be ready to deliver. Moreover managing the other faculty members for the collective progress of the department is not a walk in the park. Sometimes you have to be strict with the person you are the closest with. Though it is an energy draining job, the salary that I receive is quite satisfying. Moreover, the salary keeps increasing as you gain more experience in the field.

Someone with good leadership skills will excel in this field.
What are some of the positives, which would encourage someone to become an HOD?
This is the best job for a person who has an interest in the electrical department. You keep learning over the years from your colleagues. The more you put an effort in such an institution, the more increase in salary you get. The work experience that you get from such a job is just priceless. The fact that the future of hundreds of students rests in your services make you more disciplined and responsible.
What are some of the negatives that you would want someone to be aware of when considering a career as HOD?
One of the most negative aspects of this job is the work overload. Sometimes you have to put in extra hours of work just for the sake of the institution. A hectic schedule usually leads to an irritated mind that your family does not want. As the university is governed by a central body that is seated in New Delhi, sometimes our salaries also get delayed. Lastly, if you are even slightly lethargic and irregular, your Head of Department will take no time replacing you with someone else.
