Please give us a summary of your Career.

I started my career at the company Altisource in the year 2014 and worked in the company as a tester for 3.5 years. There, I was on a team of about 12 members. Even though I got exposure in my field, I wanted more experience.

So, I joined Eurofins to attain that. It has been a year since the same. My career includes doing proficient and extensive work in Performance Testing, Database Testing, Manual Testing. I am a part of a team with around 20 members. It is giving me the opportunity to be well versed with and have a hands-on experience on Jmeter and SQL. We use analysis tools such as JMC, AppDynamics, AWR, and ASH reports. We also assist in finding causes for major production issues. With all the ups and downs it has, overall, been a great journey and there is a lot more to come.

Please describe your current Job Responsibilities as a Software Engineer.

I am currently working as a QA Test Engineer. My job profile includes developing SQL Stored Procedures and Queries for Backend testing using Oracle 11g. My work consists of experience and knowledge of Agile & Scrum development environment. It utilizes my expertise in Oracle tool SQL*Loader for loading data into the database through .xls, csv.txt etc. I have to analyze TKPROF, AWR report for SQL process while also being involved in the configuration and installation of application software like Erlang, RabbitMQ, JDK, Apache, and Jmeter.

What are some of the positives, which would encourage someone to become a software engineer?

There are a lot of positives in this field. We are given flexible work hours which provides us with the chance to have space for our personal life too. This also results in the generation of interest. Amenities are abundant in companies like these ranging from playing fields to creative family days. The job pays quite well along with other added beneficiaries. The working environment of such companies is quite comfortable. Constant learning makes this profession never ending on the educational scale. Also since the work here is executed in a virtual world we can get really creative.

What are some of the negatives that you would want someone to be aware of when considering a career as Software Engineer?

The work done in such companies is usually not process oriented.  If one cannot manage it properly then the result can be quite stressful. There is also a lot of competition in this area so to be professionally recognized, it requires quite a lot of effort. In this field, relevant skills are crucial and since there is always new software or such things coming up, upgrading of skills is needed. Also, since this is a sitting job, it might be inconvenient for some people.

Now you have several years of work experience and you have seen professions of others. If you are taken back to 10th/12th class and allowed to pick a profession, then which profession will you pick and why?

Given this choice, I would still pick the same profession. It brings out the creativity in me and I have a lot of passion for computers and coding.
