I have over twelve years of progressively responsible international experience in transportation planning, travel demand modeling, traffic engineering and design, traffic operations, statistics, data systems development, and data analysis. I have worked in departments dealing with transportation planning, master planning, travel demand modeling, traffic modeling, project prioritization, freeway and arterial mobility studies, transport master plans, traffic impact studies, traffic operations, freight demand forecasting, freight model development and freight master planning, safety analyses, statistical modeling, data exploration, air quality modeling and conformity planning.

Please describe your current Job Responsibilities.

I am responsible to carry out transportation planning and traffic engineering assessments and develop infrastructure designs, in support of several
Concept and Detailed Master Plans including freight planning at Industrial Areas
and Ports, Vision Plans, and Transportation Master Plans in Abu Dhabi. My
Work includes providing transportation planning expertise, managing on-call
consulting teams, land use-transport framework development, utility demand
estimation, infrastructure planning & design, transport network modeling, traffic
operations analysis, reviewing roadway geometry and intersections design, land
use planning, GIS, data analysis, and engineering support for special projects.

It is an opportunity to have a high impact and a chance to improve the quality of life for so many people by improving the quality of transportation and thereby increasing the standard of life. Thus, the economy of the country increases which helps the development of every sector. More business-oriented professionals may attend strategy sessions with their executive teams and/or meet with current and potential investors to discuss prospective opportunities in the marketplace in order to grow for your organization. In the evenings, many professionals like to continue gaining more knowledge of the field and so they engage in continuing education initiatives to receive insight on best practices or solutions to existing problems.

What are some of the negatives that you would want someone to be aware of when considering a career in your Profession?

The most negative aspect of the profession is the salary as a fresher. It does not encourage anyone but later the situation gets changed. You may have difficulty finding work in some geographic locations. Deadlines might require night and weekend work. Alongside a lot of responsibility, you need to meet deadlines and obligations of the contract which can be stressful at times. Since civil projects are generally of longer duration. Therefore, if you have to work outdoors in a remote area, that can be quite monotonous. If you strictly hate working outdoor and prefer desk-job, this may not be for you. However, you can restrict yourself to the job of structural drawings and designs. A limited number of schools offering certain specialties. Licensing is required if you want to work for the public. It takes a lot of time to be a practiced expert in this field.
