Please give us a summary of your Career.
After graduating, I joined the Coal India Limited company in 1986. My very first posting in this field was in the Northern Coalfield Limited situated at Madhya Pradesh. I started this profession as a Management Trainee. I worked there for about twenty-six years and was then promoted and transferred to Bharat Coking Coal Limited in 2012 which is another subsidy of CIL. Later, I was promoted as the Chief Manager in the Excavation dept. In 2016, I was transferred departmentally to the Industrial Engineering Department where I have been working for the last two years.
Please describe your current Job Responsibilities as Chief Manager.
During the initial phase of my career as a management trainee, my job responsibility primarily included supervision of mechanics who worked on machines related to the coal excavation site. I worked on the sites for a few years and was then transferred to the administrative department where I had to supervise documents related to the excavation site. As the Head of Industrial Engineering Department, my main job responsibility is the Supervision of the technical equipment in BCCL that are related to the excavation sites.

What are some of the positives, which would encourage someone to join your Profession?
Being in the administrative area of the Industrial Engineering dept, I get to understand almost all technical activities taking place in the company which adds to my awareness and knowledge. I, thus, get a lot more exposure to technology which was absent when I was in the field work. Also, this profession is secure and allows a good work culture because of which I can suggest effective measures for the betterment of the company.
What are some of the negatives that you would want someone to be aware of when considering a career as Chief Manager?
The first and foremost con of this field is its level of exhaustion. Long hours of office work, as well as field work both, are physically and mentally exhausting. Secondly, the work pressure in this profession sometimes gets immense which may affect the health adversely in the long period. The work hours are long and tedious which sometimes leave little time for personal life. There is also a pressure to stay updated with advancements which are essential for the company’s progress.
