Please give us a summary of your Career.
After completing my specialization degree in Anaesthesiology from New Delhi, I started my career as an Anaestheologist here in Jamshedpur. After a few internships, my very first posting in this field was in Tata Main Hospital which is one of the primary medical institutions present here in Jamshedpur, run by the renowned Tata Group. I joined the institution around 2008-2009 and have been working ever since as an anesthesiologist in Operation Theatres as well as in critical units such as CCU and ICU.
Please describe your current Job Responsibilities as Anesthesiologist.
As an anesthesiologist, my primary job responsibilities include monitoring patients before and after anesthetic dosage and tackle with adverse reactions or complications if required. We have to keep a record of patient history and the amount of anesthesia and patient condition throughout operations. When in operations, we also need to administer the dosage of sedatives to control pain and coordinate with surgeons regarding the same. Sometimes, we also collaborate with healthcare professionals to plan or provide quality treatment.

Since this field deals with human life, one has to be absolutely careful and efficient in his/her skill. Also, the fieldwork needs to have an extremely focused mind.
What are some of the positives, which would encourage someone to become an Anesthesiologist?
The first and foremost advantage of being an anesthesiologist is the pay scale. This profession in general promises a pay scale slightly higher than the other professions.
Secondly, this field also offers a wide range of job opportunities. With older practitioners retiring, new openings are always created. Also, since anesthetics are necessary for surgeries, anesthesiologists do not fall short of job availability. The social respect of this profession is yet another incentive.
What are some of the negatives that you would want someone to be aware of when considering a career as Anesthesiologist?
This profession has long tedious hours during operations and emergency calls that call for immediate attention at any hour of the day. Also, this profession is one that is very risky since it deals with human life. Even a little of overdosage of anesthesia can be extremely fatal. This leads to the potential stress that can also be extreme sometimes.
One gets better with experience in this field. Hence, it sometimes gets very difficult to secure a good job during the initial years without experience.
