After 2 years of training at Villupuram, I started working at Villupuram near Tirchi as a Junior Engineer for 6 years where my basic responsibilities were to do the certification of goods and coaching trains and I was then transferred to Harirar in the same department and designation where I worked for 8 years. Later, I was promoted to the post of Senior Section Engineer in Mysore and have been working in Mysore for the last 12 years. The responsibilities of a senior section engineer are the maintenance of railways coaches, coaching depot and wagons.
Please describe your current Job Responsibilities in Indian Railways.
The job responsibilities mainly include maintenance of the coaches of railways, coaching depot and wagons. Trains that arrive at Mysore from various destinations such as Varanasi, Delhi, Solapur, Ajmer, Dharwad, Hubli, Bagalkot, Jaipur, Howrah, Nanjangud, Patna, Bangalore. These trains have to be maintained and certified. The daily work regarding these are checking the wheels and machines, connections of strings to the train and the pulling chain in the train for emergencies are also checked which will be used in case of emergencies.

What are some of the positives, which would encourage someone to join Indian Railways?
This is a very secure job which motivates the worker to do their job with a lot more effort. Motivation is must for every person to work with some effort. Incentives or bonus provided on occasions motivate people in this profession. And also, there is a definite rise in the income as you grow in the field. Thus, they get the right salary as per their efforts. Since it is a secured job there is the assurance to the worker that they will not be unemployed.
What are some of the negatives that you would want someone to be aware of when considering a career in Indian Railways?
This profession is going to be a little stressful as the time passes and since the field work is more as it includes more physical work each and every day. It includes traveling. Balancing work life may become little difficult as it is fieldwork and sometimes require traveling and night shifts as per to complete the assigned job or if the Co-worker is on leave. His or her work will be assigned to another worker along with his daily work by which he may experience even more pressure or overload of work.

It is not possible to start a business in railways as it requires an enormous amount of capital that is not easy acquired by citizens and the state has to take the responsibility of setting up and maintaining railways in India.
