Please give us a summary of your Career.

I started working as an Assitant Librarian at Panjab University’s college. After that, I joined as Semi Professional Assistant in Delhi University’s college. Working in any library is a social serving profession. User satisfaction is our prime motto. That is why always try to facilitate our Staff and students. In this IT era, it is also challenging to update knowledge to compete with it and give our best to our users. However, Our Five laws of library science and IFLA ‘s motto “Our Vision, Our Future” always remind and help us to do our duties and lighten our path for the future.

Please describe your current Job Responsibilities.

My daily job responsibilities include handling the circulation module (membership of faculty and students), creating e-database for e-resources, updating of issue return data, issuing No dues to a user, helping in other modules like Acquisition, Binding, Stationery and other library duties assigned by my superiors. For example, assisting him in different workshops and lectures organized for the maximum utilization of library resources. To help differently abled staff or students by providing them selective dissemination service(as per their requirement). These are the few things I deal with on a daily basis.

What are some of the positives, which would encourage someone to join your Profession?

I think of working in a library as a way to serve the society. For me, the user’s satisfaction is everything. It gives me a great feeling to help others. It helps to manage work as well as life due to nature of work. A library is about books and learning as well as life is also a lifelong learning process. It helps us to understand life with more positive possibilities. Books are always good friends of human beings. One can learn about every aspect of life from books.

What are some of the negatives that you would want someone to be aware of when considering a career in your Profession?

There is nothing negative in this career or any career if you are putting your best efforts towards your assigned duties. In my opinion, no work is low or high in degrees, everyone’s duties is important, only then can good output or the purpose of serving the society can come out. Obviously, there is a hierarchy in any organization and to follow instructions, good communication for effective/desired output is required.

I would still choose the same profession. However, I would also like to take up teaching in Library Science, research at wide areas in Library Science or teaching any other language.
