Please give us a summary of your Career.

I started my career in GECIS as an associate in communication and have had a varied experience in corporate like I was a trainer at GLobal Vantedge, an Associate Manager in HR at Metlife, the Manager in HR at Genpact and even, Evalueserve. Now, I am a part of the Manav Rachna International School in PR and Marketing as Manager Admissions. I started my career in 2001 as a process associate in inbound calling for Ge medical systems. Soon, grew to become the communication coach for the same process. Then, moved on to set up the voice training for Global Vantedge and moved in the HR role in the same organization. Later joined Metlife for institutional business with a span of 500 people.

Please describe your current Job Responsibilities.

The primary duties that come with my job responsibilities are parent engagement, admissions, PR & marketing, and external events. I see to it that all the queries related to the admissions process, eligibility, fees are being answered to the parents and students alike. Also, I have to maintain parent engagement through constant counseling and I am responsible for apt media coverage of all important school events. I ensure active participation of students in external events that cater to the development of our children. Primarily, I have to concentrate a lot on creating and maintaining the brand image of the school. This is done through ties ups with media teams.

What are some of the positives, which would encourage someone to join the Profession in Public Relations?

Job in Public Relations is a job which makes an impact on the young lives. We provide education and in a way, upbringing to the students. I am content with where I am right now, professionally. You are in contact with a lot of people and different problems that open you up to different experiences. I like maintaining a proper schedule for my day. I get to network a lot, that helps me be resourceful enough to get the work done. In every profession, relationships make a lot of difference in order to make progress and this profession allows me to build on those a lot more.

What are some of the negatives that you would want someone to be aware of when considering a career in Public Relations?

In today’s world, money is equally important and there can be a low salary, especially when you are starting out. This is a very demanding job, in terms of emotional quotient. People have to be able to strike the right balance between emotions and numbers. You have to strike a balance between your personal and professional life. Hence, one should be able to make a proper choice, weighing all pros and cons, if opting for this profession.

I would pick up Psychology as the primary subject of focus because after being in the kind of roles I have managed, I have realized I enjoy being with people and solving their personal or professional challenges.
