Please give us a summary of your Career.
After graduating from BIT Sindri in Electronics and Communication Engineering, the initial phase of my career started in May 2008 when I was posted in Vodafone. I worked there as an engineer for approximately a year.
In August 2009, I joined Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited in New Delhi. Initially, I joined the firm as an Engineer but gradually rose to become the Deputy Manager. I currently serve as the Deputy Manager at MTNL.
Please describe your current Job Responsibilities.
As a deputy manager at MTNL, my primary job responsibility is managerial work in the Telecom Sector. We can be called the bridge between the firm and the telecommunication technology. Sometimes, I also supervise the sector that handles customer care. My job responsibilities also include designing, provisioning, operating, maintaining and expanding of the Broadband Network. The main aim is to provide support to providers of telecommunications, and other network services.

One has to be spontaneous and problem solver in this field. You need to be a multi-tasker. You also need to maintain cordial professional relationships that again requires cool temperament and good communication skills.
What are some of the positives, which would encourage someone to join your Profession?
The first major positive thing about the field is the knowledge and personal growth this job has. We get regular exposure to new projects where we not only participate but also contribute socially as citizens. These projects include the Commonwealth Games, WiFi services to all NDMC area in Delhi, Health Mela, India Trade Fare, and FTTH in Delhi etc. The work culture is generally good and co-operative. Also, the job is considerably lucrative in terms of money.
What are some of the negatives that you would want someone to be aware of when considering a career in your Profession?
It is difficult to maintain a work-life balance in this field. At some point, there emerges a time constraint for even minutes of leisure. Secondly, due to the humongous number of engineers graduating every year, the scope of employment is reducing. This is leading to a lower income potential in the field. This profession also establishes a stable yet monotonous life routine due to which ambition and risk-taking attitude fade away gradually.
