Please give us a summary of your Career.

I graduated from college in 2010 with a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy.
For the next four years i.e. from 2010 to 2014, I worked in Pharmaceutical Dosage Manufacturing Companies in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh and in Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir). I worked as a manufacturing chemist, production chemist, and senior Production Officer. I also gained experience in solid and liquid dosage from the manufacturing and packing processes. In 2015, I came to Jamshedpur and joined Tata Main Hospital as a pharmacist where I’ve been working ever since.

Please describe your Responsibilities as Pharmacist.

As a pharmacist, my prime job responsibility is to counsel the patients regarding safe and responsible administration of the prescribed medicaments. My day to day responsibilities include patient counseling regarding drug-drug and food-drug interaction. Along with this, my responsibilities also include material management i.e. storage and dispensing of medicines as per the physicians’ prescriptions. I also have to take care of material procurement in central medical stores.

What are some of the positives, which would encourage someone to join Pharmacist Profession?

This job requires office work which needs minimal physical exertion. This serves as a very attractive incentive for a majority of people who want to get into this field. The work-life balance is also very stable in this job. We have regular interactions with doctors and physicians who help us stay alert about the upcoming medical problems and their solutions. This profession also offers new and up to date information about new medical technologies which help us in daily life too.

What are some of the negatives that you would want someone to be aware of when considering a career in Pharmacist Profession?

As this profession is still developing, the income potential is not as lucrative, especially in smaller institutions. This may pose a problem in the longer run. The working hours sometimes stretch beyond the limited time owing to demand of the situation or in case of an emergency. It is generally very tough for freshers to get employed in this field. In most of the institutions, freshers are not employed without the relevant experience of minimum 3 years.
