Please give us a summary of your Career.

I started my career in 2002 as an Educational Consultant with Scholastic India Pvt Ltd. Then I moved to ABN Amro Bank as a Preferred Banking Consultant in 2003. I then worked at Citibank and then moved to Airtel.
In 2009, I joined NES Global Specialist Engineering Services Pvt Ltd as a Sr Recruitment Consultant. This is where my career in HR started. Then, I joined Sistema Shyam Teleservices (MTS) as Head Talent Acquisition for their Karnataka Circle. I am currently working as a Senior Manager Human Resources at Kennametal India Ltd (KIL)

Please describe your current Job Responsibilities.

I currently work at Kennametal India Ltd as the Senior Manager in Human Resources. My job is to liaise with the Business Leaders and Managers to introduce specific HR initiatives relevant to business and recommend HR solutions aligned to business objectives. I collaborate with other HR vertical leaders and Centre of Excellence to identify and influence changes that will bring improvements. I also create robust communication forums and facilitate interactions between the employees and management on a regular basis.

What are some of the positives, which would encourage someone to join your Profession?

  • There is work-life balance in the job, one doesn’t need to spend extra time at work most of the time & the travel is limited as well.
  • There is a lot of Interaction with people since we are dealing with the all the time.
  • We frame the policies and procedures of the organisation and play a critical role in the organisation.
  • The most important thing is we help people develop & build their careers. This role is instrumental in building/developing the talent development strategy for the organisation.

What are some of the negatives that you would want someone to be aware of when considering a career in your Profession?

  • Mostly the employee satisfaction scores for the human resource verticals are the lowest, this is an irony but this is how it is.
  • Human Resources is the torch bearer for all the policies and process within the organisation & hence at times, the burden gets a lot out of the person.
  • They work towards the development of employees within the organisation and most of the times their development & growth gets missed.
