Please give us a summary of your Career.

I started to work as an articled clerk at a reputed chartered firm. My work there was related to Income tax, sale tax, audit, etc. After completion of my articles, I worked in another chartered firm. After that, I got selected in a government organization, which is involved in the maintenance of the national waterways of India. The firm’s name is Inland waterways authority of India. After resigning from there, I joined a PSU firm i.e; RITES. This PSU was involved in laying and maintenance of railway tracks in India and abroad. Recently I joined the Damodar Valley Corporation, undertaking the ministry of power which involved in generation and distribution of power.

Please describe your current Job Responsibilities as Finance Manager.

Currently, in Damodar valley corporation, I deal with taxation matters like Income tax, GST and Sales tax.  Being the Finance Manager, I am also involved in the reconciliation of accounts with many Government and PSU companies, which are debtors and creditors of our company. It is a big task which requires specialization in coal and oil sectors. I am also involved in the preparation and finalization of the annual financial budget related to many DDOs.

What are some of the positives, which would encourage someone to join your Profession?

This job helps us learn stress management. For this, I have to make the environment that is stress-free and the juniors don’t feel pressured. I lead the team from the front by staying at the back.

What are some of the negatives that you would want someone to be aware of when considering a career as Finance Manager?

I have a lot of other assignments which are not related to the job assigned to me. In these cases, I am unable to disregard the orders of my seniors.
