Please give us a summary of your Career.

I first started my career with a two-month internship at the Benaras Medical College. After completing the internship, I switched my line and started working as an LIC agent in 1990. My work mainly dealt with insurances. I worked at LIC for a few years and left my job in 1996. In 1997, I joined Abbott which is a global healthcare company. I joined their department of Sales and Purchases. I worked there for about ten years from 1997 to 2007. Post that in 2008, I joined KPC Medical College and Hospital and have been working there since.

Please describe your current Job Responsibilities.

As an LIC agent, my work was primarily regarding the insurances. As the head of Sales and Purchases, my prime job responsibility is to maintain and supervise the record of all medical devices and equipment used in different educational processes in the medical college and hospital. I am also responsible for the supervision of equipment and other technological machines. My responsibility also includes taking care of employees working in the accounts department. It also requires periodical interaction with officials who come for audits.

This profession needs a lot of calculations and accounting on a daily basis which can frustrate you sometimes. One should have a cool temperament and enough patience for this profession. Also, the work remains more or less the same every day, so only the one who is organised and disciplined can progress.

What are some of the positives, which would encourage someone to join your Profession?

The first major positive thing about this field is a minimal amount of physical exertion which is a major prerequisite of many people. Also, this job provides an extensive information regarding the market. One can benefit and progress quite early in the career from utilizing resources and understanding people and business customs.
This profession also brings you in contact with an ample number of influential people.

What are some of the negatives that you would want someone to be aware of when considering a career in your Profession?

Sometimes, long hours of office work and continuous accounting processes are mentally exhausting and tend to lead to several health problems. The work hours stretch to approximately ten hours a day when official audits take place. The work pressure escalates, especially on these days. The job tends to become very monotonous after a certain period of time which may lead people to leave.
It is a big responsibility to ensure the quality of the product involved in the sale and purchase. Even a minor mistake can prove detrimental to one’s career.
