Please give us a summary of your Career.
Started as a software engineer in 1998 working on C++ and Oracle, where I carried out a few migration and implementation projects for overseas clients. Then in 2000, I moved to a Project firm and worked on the development of a CRM system, changed my profile to configuration management, learned and enjoyed a lot many automation solutions developments.
In 2008, I created a structured performance analysis team, and did quite a few simulation developments for distributed systems, and managed a high-performance lab.
Got trained by Craig Larman on the Scrum Master role, and have been playing this role since 2015, helping teams to be better in every sprint.
Please describe your current Job Responsibilities as Scrum Master.
I start my day reviewing my emails. Being a Scrum Master, I praise and reward those where I see long-term thinking, proactive actions, transparency, and work done in time. I also make my team aware of situations to avoid direct communication, blames etc.
During daily meetings, I spot teams helping each other, changing the course of action to meet the Sprint goal, focus on knowledge sharing etc. Also for any impediments like resource unavailability, lack of understanding, dependencies on other teams etc, and point them back to a gap in our process.
My another important task as Scrum Master is to coordinate with leadership to help with issues beyond the teams’ area of influence. Coordinate and perform activities for knowledge sharing amongst fellow scrum masters, provide lean/agile/scrum training on a need basis.

What are some of the positives, which would encourage someone to become a Scrum Master?
If you are a person who is self-motivated, love to learn about the systems as a whole, loves working with people, loves to make people take pride in doing what they do you are definitely going to enjoy this profession.
Again, If you are a long-term thinker, you look at various things and can make sense of things, the profession of Scrum Master is for you.
If you have the courage to politely and emphatically say what is right and what is not, irrespective of the person in a high position, this is for you.

Being a good communicator and storyteller and having the ability to connect with people will do wonders.
What are some of the negatives that you would want someone to be aware of when considering a career as a Scrum Master?
Most of the people and teams are driven by short-term perspective, therefore it becomes super challenging for me to bring just any change.
Most of the time, you are working with people who are not willing to try anything new, in those cases for a long long time not being able to see any positive change is really frustrating and if you are week hearted, you can even go in depression.
Although there is a lot written on the Internet about these roles, you will find very few people (if at all) who really understand the core of it. So its almost going to be your own battle individually.
And for salary raise, you should be lucky.
