Please give us a summary of your Career.

I joined LIC as Assistant Administration Officer. My posting was in a small place but it was a very big office. I continued for 4 years and was elevated to Branch Head. I continued at the same rank for 4 yrs and then posted to Western India.
Thereafter, I was again promoted and transferred to Western Odisha.
During these 30 years, I have spent 18 years in marketing, where my management education came in handy. I came across people from different languages-Assamese, Maithil, Bengali, Odia, Marathi. I found most of the people are good except a minuscule. It was very enriching to know various culture and food.

Please describe your current Job Responsibilities as Regional Manager.

My job as Regional Manager starts with ensuring that all 206 offices are having Network and Internet connectivity. For this, I am supported by the network team. Thereafter checking mails, assigning tasks, complying with requirements are my further tasks. I meet Vendors for various maitenance and new project works. It also helps in enhancing interpersonal relationship and understanding problems better.
I am assisted by my teams located across 13 locations. I also need to contact Head Office, when there is a major issue. There is an exchange of information with my counterparts from all other zones across India.

What are some of the positives, which would encourage someone to join your Profession?

Firstly, the job of Regional Manager is very secure and stable. This sector is free from the recession and you never see layoffs.
Secondly, you get several opportunities to visit foreign countries and the chance to attend world-class training. Meeting people from different countries, who are from different cultures, boosts your interpersonal skills. You get to know about their choices, interests in insurance products and other traits.
Thirdly, the income potential is high and lucrative.
Finally, there is a great potential for becoming a very successful insurance salesman, who is actually a financial adviser to his clients.
Apart from this, CSR activities are also undertaken and I personally feel good about them.

What are some of the negatives that you would want someone to be aware of when considering a career in your Profession?

1. Since it is a financial institution, there remain chances of people indulging in dishonest activities which are illegal in nature. So, one must be aware and honest all times so as to prevent the rise of any difficult or unwanted situation for the organization as well as for the clients.
2. Due to the presence of many legal formalities, sometimes, we are not able to provide insurance claims in time.
3. There is always a level of pressure which is linked with the sales. If the sales are not to the desired level, then that can pose as a massive obstruction for the organization’s growth and this may, in turn, increase the stress and depression level of the person working for the organization.

If I again get a chance to pick a profession then I will like to be a data scientist as maths and statistics were my favorite subjects.
