Please give us a summary of your Career.

My career started as a soldier. I served the Indian Army for a year in 1994. I then joined the Hotel Management course.
Post that, I worked at the Hotel Taj in Jaipur from 1999-2001. Then in 2001, I joined the Hotel Citizen in Mumbai and worked for a year. I also worked at Hotel Mehfil in Amravati from 2002-2004.
In 2005, I again changed my career stream. I joined ICICI Lombard and worked for nine years. In 2014, I left ICICI as a Sales Manager and joined Cigna TTK as an Assistant Manager.
I joined Bajaj Alliance in 2016 and thereafter my present company in 2018 as the Branch Manager.

Please describe your current Job Responsibilities as a Branch Manager.

During the hotel management phase of my career, my duty was to supervise the work of stewards and look after the customer service. My prime job responsibility as a Sales manager was to manage the network of business agents and develop strategies to hit the sales target in the required time. I was also responsible for the management of the broker channel network.
My present job responsibility includes supervision and management of a team of human resources to bring out the best results in the interest of the firm. I also represent my firm to the Banks with whom our company has tie-ups. I also have to keep check of the agent channel and the ensure that Sales Target is achieved.

What are some of the positives, which would encourage someone to join the Profession of Branch Manager?

This sector provides an abundance of opportunities. Though initially, the availability of a job is meek, once experience is gained, options increases.
Secondly, this field brings in contact with many influential people. Also, we get to meet a variety of people on a daily basis.
This field enhances latent leadership qualities. It also teaches co-operation, teamwork and patience.
Fourthly, most of the firms provide travel allowances, mobile allowances, yearly bonus and medical facilities which serve as yet some other popular incentives.

What are some of the negatives that you would want someone to be aware of when considering a career as a Branch Manager?

The workload and the compulsion to reach the set targets sometimes become so immense that they affect the personal life adversely. One has a strong tendency to become naturally agitated and irritated being after a long time.
Also, long hours of a desk job and computer work strains the eyes and tires the muscles which may lead to severe health problems.
As mentioned earlier, the difficulty for a fresher to get a job in this field is high unless with some strong recommendation. This is yet another con about this field.
