Auditing was my first job. I started in the year 1991 and my designation was Auditor. I spent 27 years there with many ups and downs. And Currently, I am appointed as a Senior Auditor.
My responsibility is to audit various departments of the government of Uttar Pradesh to see that proper utilization of government funds, grant etc is being done. After each Audie, a report is prepared against fund utilization for it.
I was selected through subordinate services exam organized by Uttar Pradesh public service commission. The commission organizes this exam every year. After passing this exam, you will be posted in a local fund audit department of Uttar Pradesh as an auditor
Please describe your current Job Responsibilities as an Auditor.
Auditing of various government departments and organizations. I have to travel from place to place for auditing purpose. A report is prepared after each audit and it is sent to the relevant department for compliance. Each Audit team consists of both technical and non-technical people. Main work of an Auditor is to examine books of accounts related to finance and to see if the organization is spending funds judiciously.
The Audit is done by teams which are appointed by the Government. And if there is any major issue, then we report it to the government.

The job of an Auditor is not very stressful. Just easy-going and completing the work on time is needed.
What are some of the positives, which would encourage someone to join the profession of an Auditor?
It is a very easy going job, which doesn’t require you to take much pressure of work. Selection in this profession is very easy. You just have to be an average student.
It is also a very respectable job and you carry out a very important function of the Government.
It is not much time-consuming, but negligence is not acceptable in this field.
This job ensures that you have the thorough knowledge of law and government orders.
What are some of the negatives that you would want someone to be aware of when considering a career as an Auditor?
Everyone expects the report to be fair and there shouldn’t be even a slight mistake. This is sometimes very stressful.
The reports are sometimes too long and it becomes very exhausting. And sometimes facts are buried deep in paperwork and it’s tough to find those.
Some Auditors don’t have the technical knowledge. But still, they do it and make a mess out of it, which other team members have to clean it up or owe it collectively as a team.
This is a teamwork every audit report is dependent on other group members knowledge.
