What are some of the positives, which would encourage someone become an Associate Professor?

One of the best things about this kind of job i.e. is job security. There’s a joke that runs around that as much as it is tough to get into this profession, to get a permanent job in the government sector, it is almost equally difficult to get out of it.
Another thing is the amazing work-life balance and fixed hours of work, and there’s always plenty of time left to harbor hobbies.
Also, one of the major driving factors is that you get to interact with students on a one-on-one basis. You’re the hands that shape up their future. Various non-teaching work such as preparation of syllabus etc helps you to constantly be in touch with the updates in your field.
For everyone who never wants to cease the learning process in their lives, this is the ideal path to take.

What are some of the negatives that you would want someone to be aware of when considering a career as an Associate Professor?

The only negative or I wouldn’t even call it a negative but rather a huge hurdle circling this profession is the amount of consistency and hard work required to get into this job in the first place. I personally worked hard and never considered any job menial on my way to being in the position that I am in right now, no matter how many hours of tuition I had to teach, no matter the lengths I have to travel to go for home tuitions, etc.
Also, being in the government sector, there’s a possibility of finding yourself stuck at a stagnated point with passivity filling you up, because you have a constant and secure source of income, but that aspect is really in your hands.
