Started with NAV Backoffice based in Jaipur in 2009 after completing my MBA. Worked there for about 3 years. My responsibility there was to take care of fund accounting for the clients assigned.
After that, I joined Genpact. Was part of the organization for about 2 years. I was part of the Accounts Payable process of our clients in APAC region and I was handling Thailand location in specific.
After that, I joined Agilent Technologies as a Financial Coordinator. Here again, I was part of the Accounts Payable team and I stayed in the organization for about a year and a half. The company was based in IMT Manesar – Gurgaon.
After leaving Agilent I have joined Sapient Consulting which I am still a part of. I am part of the Accounts Receivable team here and have a designation of Senior Associate.

Please describe your current Job Responsibilities as a Senior Associate (Accounting).

My responsibility at work includes generation of Invoices as per the due dates and to make sure the Invoices reach client on time after proper internal approvals. I handle clients of the European region. The number of clients I handle is about 50-60 and the number of Invoices generated is about 500-600 per month.
After the Invoices are generated, we have a separate team named Collections, which take care of follow-ups regarding payment and we provide them whatever help they need. That means we work in close coordination with each other.

What are some of the positives, which would encourage someone to join the Accounting profession?

It is a stable job. You are not required to travel.
Its only 5 days a week job. No physical activity involved. Not a very hectic job. Can grow fast if you are good at your work. After reaching manager position, you only have to manage people and get work done from them instead of working yourself. You have good work and life balance. Can give time to your family.
You can even have a part-time business running along with your job.

What are some of the negatives that you would want someone to be aware of when considering a career in your Profession?

Work politics. Competition. Managers are majorly diplomatic. They only promote people based on their personal choices instead of performance. Will have to stretch on odd hours in case work is more. Sometimes growth is slow both in case of monetary and positional terms. The job becomes monotonous after some time as you have to do repetitive work. You have to keep showing off your work as that is the trend these days.
