Research Executive with Centre for Operations Research and Training (CORT), Baroda: During three years of association, undertook several social, health and development studies to assess the situation, determine the feasibility and evaluate the impact in the health and development sector.
Field Officer with the Aga Khan Health Services, India: Worked for close to five years to provide management support to the community healthcare workers involved in providing preventive, promotive and curative services.
Training and Communication Specialist with the Healthy Highway Project: Worked for close to three years during which developed training and capacity building system for the implementing partners involved in HIV and STI prevention program amongst the truck drivers and their sexual partners.
Program Manager with FHI 360: Worked with several large NGO s contracted to implement HIV/AIDS comprehensive prevention to care and treatment program.
Program Officer with ILO: Supported ILO constituents to integrate HIV/AIDS prevention and care program in workplaces.

Please describe your current Job Responsibilities as Director of an NGO.

Director: Develop annual strategic plans, review the progress and fine-tune implementation strategies to achieve set goals and objectives. Provides leadership support to the teams involved in implementing community and home-based care and support services to the large number of old widows, single and abandoned aged in Vrindavan and other nearby towns. Identify and develop collaboration with partners to promote the divinity and dignity of the elderly. Develop organizational systems, procedures to build a strong and sustainable organization.

Satisfaction from working for the development of people and commitment is very fulfilling.
The opportunity to make a contribution to help people to achieve their highest potential, help community and nations overcome material and spiritual poverty is very rewarding.
Leadership opportunities to work with teams and other institutions help one develop inner strength and develop inner self.
The development sector is also very organized and becomes professionally rewarding with decent perks and work environment.

What are some of the negatives that you would want someone to be aware of when considering a career in NGO?

The process-driven development could be very challenging and could be often frustrating.
The political and cultural conflicts could be major impediments in achieving desired outcomes so could be considered failure risking one’s reputation as unsuccessful.
The people driven processes could be quite complex and require one to be very sensitive and open-minded.
Often times organizations alter their objectives due to short-sightedness
