Please give us a summary of your Career as an Optometrist

I started my career as an optometrist in 1987. I have been working for the past 30 years. As an optometrist, my responsibilities are solving queries of the patient, examining patients for their diminished vision. And assisting eye specialist in OPD and operation theatre.

Please describe your current Job Responsibilities.

On a normal working day, I go to the hospital and examine the patients. During eye operations and in OPD, I assist the doctor.

You should know the difference between these three terms to better understand Eye Care professions:

1. Ophthalmologist — is a medical doctor who specializes in eye and vision care.

2. Optometrist  – is a healthcare professional. He provides primary vision care ranging from sight testing and correction to the diagnosis, treatment, and management of vision changes.

3. Optician – is a technician trained to design, verify and fit eyeglass lenses and frames, contact lenses, etc..,

What are some of the positives, which would encourage someone to join your Profession?

The income in my professions is not much but it provides a good living. The work culture and environment in my hospital are pretty decent and relaxed. If you looking for a job that offers you traveling then this is not a good option.

What are some of the negatives that you would want someone to be aware of when considering a career in your Profession?

Sometimes patients don’t cooperate. Even when you try to persuade them they behave rudely, maintaining temper in that situation is difficult. The job is not very hectic.

I would prefer genetic engineering. Because in the future there will be a drastic need for genetics and it’s different branches. In the future, it will be essential in medical science.
