Tell us something about you and your family?
I was born in Ujjain and brought up in Nagda (M.P.), where my family resides. My father is a Businessman. I have an elder brother and he works along with my father. I completed my higher education & Bachelors in Kota (Rajasthan) and Indore (M.P.). Started my career from Bangalore and today continuing in Mumbai. Many of my close friends are in the same IT profession but are further segregated in various streams like IT Support, IT Development, IT Research, IT Quality Assurance etc.
Who all had influenced most in your life and How?
I have been most influenced by my father and one of my cousin brother. My father’s independent approach (both in personal and professional life) inspires me and my brother’s charismatic personality by which he easily wins over people, helps me learn a lot.

I completed my Engineering in IT at the age of 23 and then started my career from Bangalore as a Software Engineer and continuing with the current company BNP Paribas (French Investment Bank) as an Assistant Manager.

What are the costs associated with the education/training of IT profession?
Based on my experience and understanding most IITs and NITs charge around 50–70k annually. While the Deemed universities and private colleges may charge to 60k-1Lac annually.
What are the typical entry level jobs in IT profession?
As a fresher, individual must go through various technical and functional level of training. Then later, based on screening and interest identified by organisation individual is assigned to a certain department as a Junior IT Engineer/ Associate IT Consultant/ Junior Test Engineer/ Junior Support Engineer.
What is the range of remuneration one can expect when starting out in your line of career and industry?
Describe your work? What do you typically do on a normal work day?
My work includes assuring delivery of investment bank software quality, considering what future enhancements can be implemented in software design and their up-gradation. I spend 8–9 hours/day, working 5 days a week.
As well as many times in a year, when the software Go live or there is a need in production support, individual must stretch work-hours during the weekdays or work extra during weekends.
What are some of the positives, which would encourage someone to consider a career in IT Profession?
- For someone having interest in technology, IT is the best industry.
- Specifically, my specialization in Business Analytics and Quality Assurance is helping me a lot as both are required in every software designing project. So, these specializations are highly recommended.
- Income and travel opportunities depend on what is currently hot and relevant field within IT. So, one has lot of control to charter her own success.
What are some of the challenges that you would want someone to be aware of when considering a career in IT Profession?
The biggest challenge in IT Profession comes as a fresher, when one has to select her field within IT. These can range from IT support/ development/ research or quality assurance. This choice largely defines your career, because it is difficult to switch between sectors later, after gaining experience for certain years.
If at all one plans to change the area of work, then your previous experience losses its significance and one need to make a new start. So, one must be very certain about the choice of the sector he/she wishes to work.
Working in your choice of sector will keep your interest and growth high.
What are the relevant skills/technologies that are currently commanding premium in your job profile?
As an Assistant Manager in quality Assurance sector of IT, I would recommend that individual can focus on automation design & execution by learning various languages or tool like (UFT, Selenium, Python, etc.) Apart from this, Big Data (Hadoop) technology is the most advanced in IT industry now.
What kind of person would be happy in IT Profession?
A person who is willing to learn new technology throughout his/her work life.
Given another choice, what would you do differently as far as your professional selections are concerned? Would you pursue another profession or a passion perhaps?
After enough experience in Quality Assurance in investment banking domain, I feel I would have done equally well as a Chartered Accountancy (CA) or Company Secretary (CS).
The attributes required to excel in either in them suits my area of interest. So, CA/CS would have been equally rewarding.
What would be your advice to students or professionals who are just starting their journey on a path similar to yours?
Recommendation to students: Learning basics of technical languages is highly recommended, since foundation of basics will help you to learn technology in detail.
Recommendation to Professionals: Individual should focus on practical experience of testing automation tools (like UFT, Selenium, etc.) and build domain knowledge in your interest area.
